2018.10 Object of Memory
Object of Memory is a two-person show featuring recent sculptures and drawings by Isabel Chun and Mae Alphonse Dessauvage. The exhibition explores objecthood as it pertains to both personal and collective memory. In the desire to project memories onto objects, the work recreates and represents these objects with a newfound ambiguity. An urn or a chair becomes familiar and foreign, prompting a re-examination of the role objects play in shaping our subconscious experiences. In this manner, the works in this exhibition seek to impart a sense of the object not as a still life but as a subject and vessel for memory.
