Landscapes are territories taken up by the inputs and outputs of organisms, institutions, cities, and ways of life that challenge existing bounds of comprehension. Eating x Breathing presents two works, "From Ash" by Melody Stein and "Monoclimax Model" by Kira Clingen and Ben Hackenberger that capture two comprehendible moments in the messy pursuit of sustainability. The photographs bear witness to the fires that tore through Sonoma County, California in the fall of 2017, calling into question the agricultural and institutional decisions that depend on imbalances of labor, power, and resource allocation in order to endure. "Monoclimax Model" is an application of the recent discovery of foam-eating worms to the task of processing a small percentage of the GSD's blue and white foam waste.
