The American city is a collection of spaces manipulated and formed through capitalist processes of development. Hidden within plain site, the history of a city is ingrained within its built environment. This exhibition consists of a series of drawing-machines used to reveal the processes of spatial change resulting from the ever- increasing hegemony of the city. Seven drawing-machines were designed in response to seven individual sites within the cities of Atlanta and Boston. These drawing-machines act as archiving mechanisms used to document the hidden histories of these sites and allow the voices of these sites to “speak.” Through a de-territorialization of representation through notation and mapping, the drawing-machines graphically reveal the hidden histories of development of these spaces.
