Nano- and micro-scale explorations in Material Science have led to novel insights into material properties unknown in human scale. By magnifying the scale of rather mundane modeling materials, we are able to inform structural formations at new scales and explore their materiality in greater depth. Utilizing a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to display microscopic images and structurally translating such microscopic detail into an immersive installation, we invite you to examine the complex nano- and micro-scale forms of materials commonly found in Gund Hall's trays. The Design Laboratory is open for those that want a closer look at a selection of these materials. Through immersive and exploratory means, come rediscover your relationship with these 'banal' materials.
