2016 SPRINGEPHEMERAL FORMWORK

Last year Boston received a record-breaking 110.6 inches of snowfall. After months of extreme weather, cars, cigarettes, toys and other curiosities began to emerge from beneath the seemingly innocent piles of fluffy material. This is where our fascination with snow began: how might an architect translate this abundant, malleable material into something more permanent? By revisiting this ephemeral material as resource rather than a nuisance, we aim to uncover the creative possibilities for casting concrete in snow.

The installation will present stand-alone sculptures and architectural mock-ups made of concrete cast in snow. Material details and images of snow will be projected alongside the sculptures and models, while drawings and photographs of the construction process will cover the walls.
