LIGHT HIVE is a continuous series of investigations that explore notions of form, space and shadows informed through experiments in computational design and materiality. These explorations employ light and surface as mediums in constant negotiation with each other. Through a play of extenuating and obscuring one another, they become simultaneously complementary and conflicting elements. This conflict gives rise to an immersive spatial experience where surfaces and apertures are explored as a set of relationships with incident light conditions that range from occlusion, reflection and refraction leading to a range of caustic optical effects. These techniques are studied through computational as well as analog methods to generate a system of rules that can be orchestrated for specific design intentions.
