2012.12SOLSTICE

solstice_ana-lauren-tara.jpg

Solstice explores the modular—how one object can stand on its own, but when combined with others of the same kind, becomes larger than the sum of its parts.

A network. The chain effect—we witness this in biological cells, the constellation, the beehive. Solstice is an ode to the changing of the seasons.

An automated installation of three 2ft-wide kinetic flowers which bloomed and retracted at various times. The project by Tara Tan, Ana Garcia Puyol, and Lauren Kim was created as part of Chuck Hoberman’s Transformable Design Class at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
